Hydroponics for Hunger

Hydroponics for Hunger is a wonderful eco-conscious charitable program that will have your group learning about healthy foods as nutrition and medicine while completing a fun series of trivia and photo and video challenges. Amazingly, all of this fun will culminate in the assembling and packaging of hydroponic (soil-free!) gardening kits to be donated to communities and organizations for growing their very own healthy vegetables and herbs!

This program was developed based on numerous requests to address the need for healthy food access for low-income communities and a variety of organizations throughout the country. With water, plastic containers, and a few tablespoons of the proper fertilizer, recipients are gifted with the knowledge and simple skills necessary to grow and harvest healthy foods in almost any location! After each season of growing, the containers are easily cleaned and the vegetable growing season is repeated again and again, year after year!

Each team will assemble four 5-gallon and four 14-gallon non-circulating hydroponics system kits, called 'Bokits', complete with all the fertilizer mix, seeds, and soil-free planting 'netpots' needed to get started. The recipients of these remarkable kits include any group that has a little space, and the will to learn and repeat the easy steps to keep this sustainable healthy food gift going! Food banks, homeless shelters, senior centers, hospitals, and schools have all benefited from learning how to grow vegetables and herbs to be used by their students, staff, and residents - and then gifting their overflow to local families in the community! Participants can put their new knowledge of hydroponic gardening to use as well, bringing a Mason jar and 2-inch 'netpot' ready for hydroponic planting home with them at the conclusion of the program.

The receiving charity will also get access to tutorial videos showing the easy steps to get started and maintain their new hydroponic garden, as well as remote support from our hydroponics partner, Levo for any troubleshooting questions. A representative from the chosen charity may surprise your group, speaking passionately about the goals and mission of the organization, thanking those in attendance, and sharing the details of where the kits will be used while accentuating the benefits to the community.

To ensure a great experience, aspects of this event may be modified for your group size, group makeup, time available, and other variables.
